Six things you can verify yourself
Your money
What happens to your winnings?
Bulgarian or EU/EEA-licensed play
Your winnings are generally tax-free. Retain transaction records and verify the current tax position if the amount or circumstances are unusual.
Offshore or unlicensed play
Winnings may be treated as taxable income at 10%. You also lose the clearer consumer protections attached to locally regulated play. Get current professional advice rather than relying on a siteโs marketing claim.
If something goes wrong
Your complaint route
- 01
Build your evidence
Save account records, transaction details, applicable terms and every support message.
- 02
Complain to the operator
Use the formal complaint channel and ask for a written decision. Keep dates and reference numbers.
- 03
Escalate if needed
Take an unresolved complaint about a licensed operator to the NRA. Legal advice may be the final route.
Quick answers
What you may still want to know
Are gambling sites legal in Bulgaria?
Yes. Online casino, sports betting and poker can be offered legally, but the operator and the exact website you use should be licensed by Bulgariaโs National Revenue Agency.
How do you identify licensed Bulgarian gambling sites?
Open the NRA register and match the complete domain, operator name and licence information. A familiar brand name by itself is not enough because operators can use different domains in different markets.
Do you pay tax on gambling winnings?
Winnings from Bulgarian or other EU/EEA-licensed operators are normally tax-free for players. Offshore or unlicensed winnings may be treated as taxable income at 10%, so unusual cases deserve current tax advice.
Can you use a VPN for online gambling?
Using a VPN is described as legal, but it does not make an unlicensed operator legal or give you Bulgarian consumer protection. It may also breach the operatorโs own terms.
Can you gamble with cryptocurrency?
You can use cryptocurrency when a properly licensed operator accepts it. Verify the operator, payment terms and withdrawal rules before sending funds.
Why are private online lottery games limited?
Most traditional lottery games are reserved for the state-owned Bulgarian Sports Totalizator. Private operators may still offer products such as raffles, bingo and keno.
Methodology & sources
The traffic table and this guide answer different questions. Traffic estimates measure audience activity; category rules describe a siteโs product; the official register determines local authorisation. A high rank is never an endorsement.
Regulations were last checked in July 2026. Figures that use different definitions keep their qualifications visible instead of being presented as directly comparable.
